1. Control of tempering effects
The larger the solid phase particles in the material; the greater the difference in gravity between the liquid and solid phases, and the smaller the viscosity of the suspension, the easier it is to separate, otherwise it is difficult to separate. For this reason, before the suspension enters the decanter, the separation conditions can be improved by appropriately increasing the feeding temperature of the material to reduce the viscosity or by adding flocculent to coagulate the solid phase.
Centrifugal dehydration generally uses high-efficiency synthetic polymer flocculants instead of inorganic salts. The reason is that the addition of inorganic coagulants will make the sludge volume expand, and the centrifuge is closed forced dewatering, which has stricter requirements on the amount of sludge, so if inorganic salt coagulants are used, the dewatering of the centrifuge will be reduced Ability is greatly reduced.
2. The control and comprehensive regulation of the amount of mud feeding
Each centrifuge has a maximum amount of mud feeding. When the actual mud feeding amount exceeds this value, the centrifuge will lose the dynamic balance of solid phase and liquid phase, and will be damaged in severe cases. Therefore, the decanter should be strictly controlled during operation.
Within the allowable range, when the mud quality and conditioning effect are constant, the larger the amount of mud, the lower the solid recovery rate and the solid content of the mud cake. volume will increase.
In addition, each decanter has a limiting maximum solids flow. If the solid content of the inflow exceeds the limit value due to the increase of the solid content of the sludge, etc., the centrifuge will be overloaded and stop due to excessive torque.
The method of selecting the appropriate feed flow rate: first adjust the feed flow rate to a smaller value, then start the decanter and work for a period of time until the speed of solid phase discharge is constant. Observe whether the solid phase discharge amount and discharge speed are appropriate. If not, change the feed flow accordingly until the solid phase discharge amount and discharge speed are appropriate. The feed flow rate at this time is usually an appropriate value. Sometimes this value can be small.
For example, for a decanter with a processing capacity of 10m3/h, due to the high solid content of the feed suspension, the actual suitable feed flow rate may only be about 2m3/h.
Since the inflow solid content is constantly changing, it is not certain whether it will exceed the limit value. Or if there is no inflow solid content measurement on site, do not adjust the feed flow to the maximum flow rate of the decanter to prevent the over-torque failure of the decanter.

In actual operation, the mud quality and mud amount of the sludge will change. In order to ensure that the dewatering effect remains unchanged, the user can choose a reasonable price according to the material properties of the suspension, the requirements of the liquid and solid phases after separation, and the processing capacity. Select the relevant parameters of the centrifuge, such as: processing capacity, drum speed, differential speed between the drum and the screw, overflow plate diameter, etc., to obtain a satisfactory separation effect.
If the drum of the centrifuge is driven by a frequency converter, the speed of the drum can generally be adjusted stepless within a large range. By adjusting the speed, the separation factor of the centrifuge can be controlled to adapt to the requirements of different separation liquids. Generally speaking, the larger the solid phase particles in the separation liquid, the greater the density, and the lower the separation factor is required, and vice versa, the higher the separation factor is required. With the increase of the rotating speed of the drum, the separation factor increases, the separation effect improves (after the differential pulley is determined), the differential speed between the screw and the drum increases, and the processing capacity increases, but the vibration, The noise will also increase and the service life will decrease. Therefore, it is very important to select the appropriate speed under the premise that the separation requirements can be met. If the drum is not controlled by frequency conversion, its rotational speed is fixed, that is, its separation factor is fixed.

Regarding to Decanter Centrifuge, the larger the diameter of the drum, the greater the processing capacity of the centrifuge. The longer the length, the longer the sludge stays in the drum and the better the separation effect. However, when the centrifuge is too large, the manufacturing and processing costs will also increase.
The rotating speed of the drum is an important process control parameter. From the separation factor formula mentioned above, it can be seen that under the guarantee of a certain centrifugal separation effect, the speed depends on the diameter of the drum. The smaller the diameter, the higher the required speed. Conversely, the larger the diameter, the required speed is also lower. Generally, the radius of the horizontal screw machine with small processing capacity is small, but the rotation speed is higher than that of the horizontal screw machine with large processing capacity.
The hollow shaft screw conveyor not only mixes sludge, but also produces centrifugal force of the sludge. At the same time, it is also responsible for transporting the sludge in the solid ring layer away from the liquid ring layer to realize the separation of sludge and water. At the cone angle of the rotating drum, the diameter of the spiral begins to decrease, and the sludge is dried out of the liquid ring layer. The cone angle is generally between 8 and 12 degree.
The difference between the rotation direction of the screw and the speed of the drum is the speed at which the sludge is output, which determines the length of time the sludge stays in the machine, so it is an important process control parameter. In addition, the overflow adjustment weir can be used to adjust the thickness of the liquid ring layer, which is also an important process adjustment parameter. By adjusting the thickness of the liquid ring layer, the residence time in the drying zone can be changed.

Recently GN Company Engineers has completed factory test of two units of Disc Separators, and then would ship them to the Southeast Asian client. The separators would be used for waste treatment of palm oil plant. There are many palm oil processing plants in the Southeast area, and Centrifuge/Separator is widely used for palm oil processing and wastewater treatment.
The processing line of palm oil includes palm fruit collection, clean, grind, centrifugal extraction, and oil clarification. Decanter Centrifuge is used for extraction, which can separate palm pomace from liquid phase. The outlet liquid (oil) from Decanter Centrifuge would be feed into Disc Stack Separator for clarification, in order to remove water & fine particles from the oil.
The material is feed into Disc Separator by gravity or with a feeding pump, and with strong centrifugal force, the material would pass through the disc bundle separation intervals. The heavy phase liquid (bigger specific gravity) moves along the disc wall towards the outside of neutral hole, and discharged by centripetal pump. The light phase (smaller specific gravity) would move along the disc wall into the neutral hole. Sludge would accumulate in the sediment area, and then would be discharged regularly. The work of Disc Separator is continuously with automatically controlled by PLC.
GN Company now is capable to manufacture both Decanter Centrifuge and Disc Stack Separator, with 2-phase design and 3-phase design capability. The bowl diameter is from 220mm to 760mm, and capacity from 1~2m3 per hour to 120 m3 per hour.
